Bone Health for the DEEs

This is the recording of the DEE-P webinar which was recorded on August 5, 2023.

We are still learning but both epilepsy and anti-seizure medications (ASMs) are associated with adverse effects on bone health. Those taking ASMs have increased rates of bone loss and other issues that may contribute to an increased risk of fracture. Come learn about how to maintain bone health and what to look out for.

Our panelists for this webinar are:

Leah Schust Myers is mom to Ben, who has SCN2A-Related Disorder, and Founder & Executive Director of the FamilieSCN2A Foundation. Ben has struggled with a range of bone issues including fractures, pronated ankles, scoliosis, osteoporosis and recently underwent spinal fusion surgery.

Dr. Meena Balasubramanian – Senior Clinical Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Genetics at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust

Dr. Paul Arundel – Consultant in pediatric metabolic bone disease at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and secretary of the British Paediatric and Adolescent Bone
